Living in the Real World with My Trive Rollator – A User’s Honest Review
Introduction
After three years of daily use, we're delighted to share Mr G Sears' firsthand account of how the Trive Rollator has supported his active lifestyle. His story speaks for itself - a testament to how the right mobility aid can make all the difference.
Finding the Right Support
"I bought my Trive rollator in March 2022 to give me a more stable platform than my walking poles as my mobility was getting more difficult at the time, and for the way that it folded. "
Everyday Reliability
"During the next three years it has be a constant companion going with me to all sorts of places that I would have found difficult without it’s reassuring support. The portability is excellent as it fits in the boot of my hatchback car without having to lower the handles, I actually have the handles at maximum height as I am 1.85mtrs tall."
In Medical Settings
"Apart from the day to day mobility support when I am outdoors, it has been in numerous medical settings and has never once been unable to come with me into appointments."
"The ambulance crew took it with them when I had to be rushed into hospital, I have sat on it whilst waiting in A&E and it came into the recovery room post operation. I have had it in the ward with me at three different hospitals and to all the NHS physiotherapy appointments. Never once has it been refused. The physio teams asked me about it and we made a small adjustment to the handle height, and they have agreed that it is more practical for me than anything they could offer."
A Recommended Solution
"As my condition is congenital I regularly interact with the NHS in particular the Rehabilitation centre at Selly Oak, Birmingham. They specialise in spinal cord injuries, neurological conditions and amputations so I regularly get to see a wide range of disabled people and the equipment they use, and we chat about the practical aspect of the equipment available. A lot of people don’t have the mobility that I do and so cannot benefit from a Trive but the ones that do I have recommended that they consider purchasing one and even let a couple have a go at walking with it."
"My dentist saw it when I went into his surgery the other month, the room was not that big so I just grabbed the strap and pulled it up collapsing the mechanism and tucked it into the corner. We spent most of the appointment chatting about the Trive and how it worked, and before I left he took a picture saying that it was exactly what his dad was looking for. His three wheeled rollator was not giving him the stability he now needs."
Daily Adventures
"Apart from medical appointments etc it goes everywhere with me, I regularly walk in the park and into town to do the shopping. It fits through doorways without folding, and I even use the seat area to put things on when I am in shops. It’s much easier than me trying to carry a bag or balance a shopping basket on the front. The supplied bag that fits on the front is very practical for small loads, but I find that the front of the bag being so soft and flexible it is not easy to engage the magnetic catch. A little stiffener across the width of the bag behind the catch would make it easier to use."
Durability & Longevity
My Trive is not a showroom model that never goes outdoors, it is fairly high mileage in so much as I have worn the tyres down so they are flat on the top and so I had to adjust the brakes, but apart from that nothing has needed attention, just a good clean, and the finish is holding up well.
Its been in taxis and people carriers, and to a whole host of outdoor events, such as airshows craft fairs, and canal boat trips, plus indoor exhibitions, museums and theatres. I regularly sit on it when I need to rest and just knowing that I can sit down anywhere has opened up more places for me to go and experience.
Restoring Independence
"I participate in disabled sailing with the RYA Sailability section at Rutland water, so the Trive goes with me into the club house, changing rooms, the boat park and even down onto the dock. The team there then put me in a sling whilst I am sitting on the Trive ready to lower me into the yacht. Whilst I am out sailing they leave it parked up on the dock with the brakes on ready for when I return. Without my rollator I would have to use my wheelchair, and whilst it s possible it is not so easy to use the chair certainly where there is any rough ground to negotiate."
From outdoors to inside it has given me more opportunities to do things on my own.
